I’m a soccer fan to the core, but I’m also a geek and proud of it. So I get a thrill reading and writing about things like the design of the Teamgeist ball or the use of on field tracking devices. Now, a reader at Slashdot just posted a story about ZDNet Australia’s special World Cup coverage and how they’re handling IT at the World Cup. Fun!

They cover a wide variety of topics including systems automation, network intrusion detection, convergence, network security, and implementation on a tight schedule. They also talk about the steps some companies are taking to prepare for the expected spikes in network traffic and server load during the events. While some of this is clearly marketing speak, there were some very interesting things in there. So grab your coffee and enjoy!
