The Cleats of Imminent Doom is a short film by Craig Hammill, which aired on IFC back in June. It’s about a girls soccer team playing in a pivotal match in a soccer tournament and all the interesting personalities you find at a youth soccer match. A number of people who saw it in June asked if I had seen it (I hadn’t) and said that they loved it. It must be generating a lot of ‘buzz’ even months after it was shown. I wrote about the film in early July and that one post gets Google referrals from searches for ‘Cleats of Imminent Doom’ almost every day.
Well, if you are like me and missed it in June, you have a second chance to catch it on IFC in October. The Cleats of Imminent Doom is part of the IFC October Short Film Collection II (2005). Below are the scheduled showings in October:

Don’t know anything about soccer, but I just saw this film on IFC and googled for more information about it. Believe it or not, your blog was the first thing to come up! I loved this sweet natured, funny little movie. According to the credits, it was done to complete the requirements for an MFA. Hard to believe it is a student work — it was great.

I’ve seen this too and it is a riot! I can’t watch a soccer game without thinking about it. I’m trying to get a copy from my friend who’s friend knows the director (or something like that). Glad to see people are seeing this film!

i loved this short film, i watch IFC a lot so i had the pleasure of seeing this film a few times. I couldnt help but notice that Stephen and Dieter from MTV’s Laguna Beach, had minor rolls in the film, playing in the featured band.

Does anyone know how one can purchase a copy of this? I coach an 11 year girls soccer team. I would love to be able to show it them.

I’ve tried to find any place where the director might be marketing it but haven’t so far. Only way I got to see it was to have a friend DVR it off IFC as it ran there every few months.
