I’ve seen some funny team names, and like to think a couple of my teams have unique names (Lunachicks and Lil’ Sheetz – sponsored by Sheetz of course). But I stumbled across this athletic club today and laughed out loud.

Nothing like a great team name. We named the youth baseball team I used to coach the Grays after the old negro league Homestead Grays. Old timey uniforms to match, of course. I’m not coaching that team any more, but this year they have new uniforms and are The Clowns, after the negro league Indianapolis Clowns, Hank Aaron’s first professional team. Retro Clowns jerseys too.

Very cool stuff. One of these days I’ll write the code to add a team name database to On The Pitch. Some already exist, but I have some ideas on making one more useful. Need to find that time!
