US Youth Soccer has announced that September 2006 will be the 4th Annual ‘Youth Soccer Month’. Dozens of events are scheduled.

"As soccer continues to grow with more children in the United States participating in organized soccer than any other sport," stated Larry Monaco, President of US Youth Soccer. "We [US Youth Soccer] take great pride in spearheading the Youth Soccer Month initiative to promote the benefits of playing this wonderful sport such as fun, family, friendship and fitness."

Throughout Youth Soccer Month a series of messages and themes will be communicated to illustrate the essence of youth soccer. Each week during Youth Soccer Month a different key will be the focus of "Celebrating Soccer in America."

You can learn more about Youth Soccer Month at youthsoccermonth.org. Numerous collegiate soccer programs are taking part so check the schedules out at US Youth Soccer to see if any of your local colleges are participating. We’ve taken our youth teams to local collegiate matches independent of this program and they’ve had a blast. I bet it would be even more fun on a night dedicated to youth soccer.

Hmmmm, wonder if I should try to get September declared Youth Soccer Month in our town! 🙂
Seriously though, they have some neat ideas for local associations to do as part of this program.
