That might be a bit harsh. The idiots were the exces that threw him into this situations and the producers who didn't amke sure he was at least prepared. Have improved over time, no doubt. But why some executive thought 'Sure, we'll take a baseball announcer and make him our top soccer announcer' is beyond me. That was the idiotic move. Homey, see I wouldn’t say the man’s an idiot.
