What was FIFA smoking when they decided to make Anheuser-Busch the sole supplier of beer at the World Cup? (HT Steve Gilliard) Take the most American of beers (but nowhere near the BEST beer), considered swill by most of the host country, and make it the only beer available during the World Cup. Genius. Nice to see Anheuser-Busch caught a clue that this wasn’t going to win them friends and allowed some German beer to be sold – Bitburger Pils. You know the USA team is going to be under enough pressure – do we really need to piss off every World Cup beer drinker even more for forcing Bud into their hands. Smart move AB. As if America hasn’t ticked off the rest of the world enough already!

I must be the only beer snob in the world who actually enjoys drinking Budweiser. You will just have to take my word for it, that I am in fact a beer snob.
Bud makes a tasty lager. Or maybe I’m just a St. Louis boy loyal to my “local” beer.

HAHAHAHA – I won’t deny that AB products grace my beer fridge on a regular basis. I’m not a Bud fan, but will happily drink a number of other beers they produce. But forcing tens of thousands of World Cup fans in the stadiums to drink Bud and only Bud is kinda cruel and unusal punishment without even taking into account the nationalistic overtones. 🙂

Like I said at Steve’s, I don’t get the outrage. Maybe it’s because I’m not thinking my hands would shake at the 25-minute mark such that I. MUST. Have. A. Beer. Rightnow.
Has no one in Deutschland ever heard of “drinking before the game?” They’ll be sold out of Bit by the 15th minute, anyway.

Heh – I think if I was at a match my hands probably WOULD be shaking for a beer. Image if you were forced to drink Milwakee’s Best at a ball game instead of Miller or Bud. Probably about the same (kinda like Coor’s Light 🙂 )
Favorite beer story – was in an English Pub in Disney World of all places (Epcot maybe?) with my Mom when I was a teenager. The waitress is taking our drink order and my Mom doesn’t recognize ANY of the beers. So she asks the waitress if they having anything like Coors Light (which my Mom drank all the time) Without missing a beat and with the sweetest smile ever, the waitress replied ‘We do have water, yes’ I almost fell off my chair laughing.
